Mountaineer Flies Mountaineer Flies is a small business located in the mountains of West Virginia. It was originated out of the love of fly fishing and fly tying by Carl DeFazio. It's purpose is to share Carl's love of this great sport with you. Mountaineer Flies is located on the banks of the beautiful South Branch of the Potomac River in rural Hampshire County and the oldest town in West Virginia, Romney. The South Branch, in this area, is known for it's world class Smallmouth bass fisheries. The state record Smallmouth came from this section of the South Branch and was caught in 1971. It measured 24.25 inches and weighed 9.75 pounds. Carl has caught and released a 5.8 pound Smallmouth with a flyrod in 1996. In the near future Mountaineer Flies will handle Carl's high quality flies along with all fly fishing gear.
