The South Branch of the Potomac River is not only a world class smallmouth fishery but also supports excellent trout water.  From its headwaters near Monterey, Virginia the South Branch flows north through some of West Virginia's most scenic mountains. The section from Monterey to Petersburg, West Virginia (70 miles) is stocked with Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout. Season is open year round. This section of the "Branch" includes one of the most visited trout waters in the state- "The Smoke Hole" Responding to many request, Mountaineer Flies is offering this page of trout flies for your enjoyment.
